Kick Off: Colorado Rapids, Philadelphia Union finally win | USMNT roster announced Here are the top 15 stories everyone's talking about this morning: 1. ALL CREDIT TO PENEDO Despite the result, the Seattle Sounders called their 1-0 loss to the LA Galaxy on Sunday night (HIGHLIGHTS) their best performance of the season and tipped their hats to their opponents' star performer, Jaime Penedo, on a day the Galaxy goalkeeper certainly had to work for his shutout. 2. RAPIDS FIND THEIR BREAKTHROUGH The surprise result of the weekend came Friday night, when the Colorado Rapids -- in desperate need of a goal -- finally got one and then couldn't stop scoring, beating FC Dallas on the road 4-0 (HIGHLIGHTS). It lifted a huge weight from the Rapids' shoulders, and Dallas coach Oscar Pareja was disappointed in his own side's flat performance. 3. ORLANDO AIMING HIGH Having taken down FC Dallas the week before, the Portland Timbers are not quite sure how they managed to lose 2-0 to Orlando City (HIGHLIGHTS) on Sunday evening. Having moved up to third in the Eastern Conference with the win, the result has Orlando believing they can go on to reach new heights. 4. UNION FINALLY WIN Having conceded several late goals in recent games, the Philadelphia Union scored one of their own on Saturday to earn a 2-1 win, their first of the season over New York City FC, (HIGHLIGHTS) and cap an emotional night for debutant goalkeeper John McCarthy. As for NYCFC, Jason Kreis was frustrated by another slow start. 5. THE MARSCH MENTALITY D.C. United were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw with the New York Red Bulls on Saturday (HIGHLIGHTS) after an "unacceptable" stoppage-time goal cost them all three points. What inspired the Red Bulls' comeback? According to the players, head coach Jesse Marsch is the man to thank. 6. ROOKIE REVELATION FOR THE DYNAMO Rookie winger Rob Lovejoy scored a golazo to cap an inspirational performance as the Houston Dynamo sealed a 3-0 win over the Montreal Impact (HIGHLIGHTS). The Impact have now conceded seven goals in their last two games, and they know they need to improve, well, everywhere. 7. BIENVENUE, KENNY! While the Montreal Impact are winless in MLS so far this season, their success in the CONCACAF Champions League means they will not play another league game until May 9, having rescheduled their April 18 match with the Chicago Fire. However, when they do eventually resume play, they'll have Kenny Cooper in their ranks. 8. LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE A 0-0 draw between Sporting Kansas City and Real Salt Lake (HIGHLIGHTS) may not seem like an ideal result for either side. Yet Sporting KC chose to look at the positives from a game they maybe should have won, while Real Salt Lake were full of praise for another strong defensive performance. 9. QUAKES STILL IMPROVING A single goal from Sanna Nyasi may have led the San Jose Earthquakes to a 1-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps (HIGHLIGHTS) late Saturday night, but Dominic Kinnear knows his side's attack is still a work in progress. Meanwhile, 'Caps coach Carl Robinson said his own team need to do a lot better after one of the league's hottest squads picked up just one point from two games last week. 10. REVOLUTION WELCOME BACK JONES Having secured a 0-0 draw with the New England Revolution (HIGHLIGHTS), Columbus Crew SC were more than happy to finish an extremely trying two-game road trip with two points. The Revs, meanwhile, were pleased to welcome back Jermaine Jones to their starting lineup and also see Andrew Farrell continue to develop in central defense. 11. US SQUAD REVEALED When the US national team squad was announced at halftime of the Galaxy-Sounders game on Sunday, the roster was largely as expected, with 13 MLS players included in the 22-man list. And could this be the next US national team home jersey? 12. NOT IF, BUT WHEN? Will the World Cup be returning to the US? Despite missing out on hosting in 2022, US Soccer President and FIFA Executive Committee member Sunil Gulati seems pretty confident in the country's chances. As it turns out, hosting a later edition of the tournament might have some added benefits. 13. S2 VS. T2, VOL. 1 While MLS teams from the Pacific Northwest may have gone 0-3 on the weekend, things at least went well for fans of the Sounders' USL side, as they secured a 2-1 win over their Cascadia rivals, Timbers 2. However, things did not go so well for any of the other MLS-operated teams. 14. ENTER, DEANDRE DeAndre Yedlin made his English Premier League debut on Saturday, coming on as a 79th-minute substitute for Tottenham Hotspur. However, while Yedlin looked comfortable enough in his short cameo, it was fellow national team star Brad Guzan who stole the plaudits on the day, ensuring Aston Villa beat Spurs 1-0. 15. FIGHT OR FLIGHT? Long flights can be rough on away teams sometimes, but it got a whole lot worse for Ottawa Fury striker Oliver Minatel after he was reportedly attacked in an unprovoked incident while travelling from Toronto to Atlanta.
