Kick Off: Commissioner's State of the League | MLS Cup storylines | more MLS awards 1. WHO WAS MOST VALUABLE? The granddaddy of the MLS awards will be revealed on Wednesday, when the league announces the 2014 winner of the Volkswagen MLS MVP Award at 5 pm ET. Watch the event live on MLSsoccer.com. 2. MORE AWARDS On Tuesday, the MLS Best XI was unveiled, honoring the top 11 players as voted by the media, players, and technical staffs. Also, the Coach of the Year Award was given to D.C. United's Ben Olsen and Portland's Rodney Wallace was named Comeback Player of the Year. On Wednesday, United picked up another accolade as Bill Hamid was named Allstate Goalkeeper of the Year . Vancouver Whitecaps captain Pedro Morales was named Newcomer of the Year. 3. MLS STATUS REPORT MLS Commissioner Don Garber held his annual State of the League event on Tuesday, where he sat down with a media roundtable and covered a wide range of topics including expansion, Canada, scheduling, and more. REIS'S TORN ALLEGIANCES As the LA Galaxy and New England Revolution prepare for Sunday's MLS Cup final (3 pm ET, ESPN, UniMas, UDN, TSN1, RDS2, SiriusXM), one of the Galaxy coaches is feeling a little torn. Goalkeeper coach Matt Reis, of course, spent nearly a decade between the pipes for the Revolution, whom he backstopped in three MLS Cup finals -- all losing efforts. 5. UNITED STADIUM PASSES VOTE It's been a long time coming, but the D.C. United stadium deal took another step forward on Tuesday. The D.C. Council voted unanimously in favor of the plan to build the capital club's new home, meaning all that remains on the political front is for the proposal to clear a second vote on December 16. 6. FIRE HAVE A NEW DP The Chicago Fire have a new Designated Player after signing Nigerian-born striker Kennedy Igboananike. The 25-year-old has spent the last five seasons playing in Sweden, and while head coach Frank Yallop calls him "a dynamic goalscorer," he only netted five times in 26 games last year. 7. TITI TALKS The media had one last chance to talk to Thierry Henry on Tuesday, and the now-former New York Red Bulls star reflected on his time in MLS and talked about the club's future. What about Henry's own future, though? Well, it looks like, one way or another, he could be heading back to Arsenal. 8. RED BULLS START REBUILDING The New York Red Bulls have already begun the process of reshaping the team for 2015 with the news that seven players have had their options declined. A few remain in discussions over new deals, however. 9. FC DALLAS MAKE SOME CUTS The Oscar Pareja revolution continues, as FC Dallas parted ways with 10 players on Tuesday, including such notable names as Raul Fernandez, Hendry Thomas and George John. They also exercised the options on another 11 players. 10. CREW SC ROSTER TAKING SHAPE Columbus Crew SC only have one player out of contract now that the club has agreed new deals with Justin Meram and Bernardo Anor. That one player is Eric Gehrig and head coach Gregg Berhalter has made it clear that the club hopes to reach a decision on the defender soon. 11. OBA SETTLED IN SEATTLE Obafemi Martins's fantastic season could attract a few suitors, but according to the Seattle Sounders striker himself, he's more than happy in the Emerald City. The Sounders don't need to worry about international conflicts, either, as Martins also insists that he will never play for Nigeria again. 12. RAWLINS SET FOR HONOR While Phil Rawlins has fulfilled his dream of bringing Orlando City SC from USL PRO to MLS, along the way he also helped shape the third division. It's no wonder, then, that Rawlins is set to be inducted into the USL PRO Hall of Fame. 13. VIKINGS SHOW OFF STADIUM The Minnesota Vikings are one of the two groups in Minneapolis competing for an MLS expansion franchise, and on Tuesday, they unveiled renderings of what their planned stadium would look like configured for soccer. 14. US U-17S FALL SHORT The US U-17 national team were unable to make it three wins out of three in the Nike International Friendlies tournament, losing their final game against Brazil 4-1. 15. NOW IT'S ALL ABOUT THE U-20S With just over a month until the start of the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship in Jamaica, Tab Ramos has called in 10 players, eight of whom play for MLS sides, for a fitness camp.
