Kick Off: Sporting, Timbers in CCL | Olsen re-ups with DC | Martin's extension?

Here are the top 15 stories everyone's talking about this morning:
1. SKC LOOK TO TAKE CONTROL
Sporting Kansas City play their last home match of the CONCACAF Champions League group stage tonight knowing a win against Real Esteli (8 pm ET, Fox Sports 1) will put them in control of their group. With a recent losing streak behind them, have SKC returned to their best form at just the right time?
2. TIMBERS TARGET CCL WIN
While they can't win the group tonight, the Portland Timbers host Alpha United (10 pm ET,  Fox Sports 1) knowing a win would go a long way towards doing so. As such, Caleb Porter has stressed just how important victory is to his side.
3. OLSEN RE-UPS WITH UNITED
Having led D.C. United to first place in the Eastern Conference this season, head coach Ben Olsen has been rewarded with a new contract that will reportedly keep him at the club through 2019. Olsen said: "I feel a responsibility to push this club to the next level."
4. MAKING SOME NOISE IN DC
Prior to the Ben Olsen announcement, D.C. United's co-owner Jason Levien went on talk radio to discuss the club's push for a new stadium, during which he talked about the importance of placing the club's supporters groups in the right place in their potential new home.
5. OBAFEMI TO EXTEND WITH SOUNDERS?
Although new Seattle Sounders signing Onyekachi Apam hasn't joined up with his new team just yet, the club hopes he'll do so by the end of the week. And it looks as though the Nigerian defender could spend extra time with countryman Obafemi Martins, as reports suggest the striker is close to signing a contract extension.
6.  WRIGHT-PHILLIPS GETTING HIS KICKS
With 24 goals to his name and just four to go before potentially becoming the MLS single-season record holder, New York Red Bulls forward Bradley Wright-Phillips is currently chasing down history. However, according to the player himself, the amount of physical abuse he's taking means he isn't having too much fun.
7. PIPA NO LONGER FIRST PICK FOR PKS?
Luckily for Federico Higuain, who missed a penalty against the New England Revolution, it didn't end up costing his side three points. Will the Columbus Crew's top attacker still be the go to man for PK's moving forward?
8. COULD LAMPARD EXTEND HIS MAN CITY STAY?
Will Frank Lampard arrive in time for the start of the MLS season? The New York City FC Designated Player is currently on loan with parent club Manchester City and, according to The Manchester Evening News, the English club might look to extend his stay. Manager Manuel Pellegrini even weighed in: "In January we will see what is happening and we will make a decision then."
9. TFC SEEK NEW JERSEY SPONSOR
Toronto FC are in need of a new jersey sponsor after BMO decided not to renew their deal with the club next season. However, the Bank of Montreal will still remain a club sponsor and maintains the stadium naming rights as TFC's ground gets set to undergo a large expansion.
10. KNOWING ATLANTA
The man behind the MLS Atlanta expansion club, Arthur Blank, recently gave a far-ranging interview about his motivations and ambitions for the new club. Last week, Blank hired Darren Eales as president, and the former Tottenham Hotspur executive has received high praise from Real Salt Lake GM Garth Lagerwey.
11. RSL MAKE USL PRO-GRESS
Things continue to progress between Real Salt Lake and the board of the Utah State Fairpark on a potential home site for a new USL PRO club.
12. MLS EXPANSION PRIORITY DRAFT
When Orlando City SC and New York City FC officially enter MLS, they will get the top spots in several of the league's drafts and player acquisition mechanisms. The question is: Who gets first choice? That will be decided on Wednesday.
13. IS QATAR STILL ON COURSE?
The "Will they, won't they" story of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar continues. While one FIFA Executive claimed on Monday that the Middle Eastern country might not host the tournament after all, officials in Qatar insisted that "the only question now is WHEN not IF."
14. ANOTHER CALL-UP FOR CUBO
Erick "Cubo" Torres obviously did something right during his Mexico debut earlier this month. The Chivas USA star has earned another call-up to El Tri for two friendlies in October.
15. STICK TO WHAT YOU KNOW
Remember Drake Davies, the high school athlete who chose to play soccer over football? Well, turns out he might not be all that good at soccer, after all.
