5 Reasons Why We Should Have No Sympathy When Bookies Lose

Help on how to make money betting with the Secret Betting Club.

Of late there have been a number of stories doing the rounds about a few lucky punters who have hit the jackpot after bagging a big winning bet or two.

These stories are always promoted by the bookmaker with whom the punter placed the bets…as they look to piggy back on it as a 'good-news' story and seek our sympathy for having to pay-out such big sums of money.

I for one though, feel not one iota of pity for any bookmaker that takes such a hit. They deserve it and a heck of a lot more besides!

To explain just why I think this way (and why any self-respecting punter should too)…here are my 5 reasons on why we shouldn't have sympathy for bookies EVER!...

1) THEY ACTUALLY WANT US TO LOSE (IT'S EITHER THEM OR US!)

My first point is the most important and it can often get lost in all the big PR stories on these outlandish big payouts. Despite appearances, you should never, ever forget that the bookmaker wants you to lose – no matter what they say.

After all, it's a simple fact of betting:

Bookmaker Wins. Punter Loses.
OR
Punter Wins. Bookmaker Loses

This doesn't apply to all bookmakers, especially exchanges but in general when betting with a traditional bookmaker there is only ever one long-term winner – either bookie or punter.  Amongst all the hullabaloo of big payouts, this point can get blurred by the PR spin. Don't let it.

2) THEY DON'T TELL US WHEN THEY WIN

Most major bookies employ a big team of PR specialists, all designed to tell us exactly how much they have lost as soon as they have a bad weekend.

Take Coral for example, they couldn't wait to tell us about the punter that bagged over 300k by getting all 15 results right in their Football Jackpot the other weekend (from a £96 stake no less – quite the sum for such a wild bet!)

Yet they are remarkably coy about the weekends when they make major profits. I have yet to read a news story claiming 'Bookies Make £50 Million As All Favourites Lose'!

Yet winning weekends do happen for the bookies and a heck of a lot more frequently than they would have you believe! They just don't write a press release when it happens.
3) THEY WANT YOU TO TAKE MUG BETS

The bookies also want to highlight the winners of certain types of bets such as accumulators or the above 'Football Jackpot' as they know long-term they will win more in losing bets than they suffer in payouts.

After all what are the chances of picking out 15 winners on any given weekend? Very, very slim indeed. And if you are sticking £96 down on it each week, you will soon go bust!

Just as a broken clock tells the time twice a day, so too will the very occasional 15-way acca come in, but the vast, vast majority of people who place these bets will lose. More than enough to cater for the occasional 300k loss that the punter above scooped.

4) THEY HAVE A LOT OF UNFAIR INFLUENCE

These days the major bookies are very powerful and hold sway over large parts of the betting media who rely on their advertising budgets to keep them going.

The upshot of this is that punters ultimately lose out as such media outlets almost always take the bookies side. After all, when did you last see a Turkey vote for Christmas? There are very few outlets who are bookmaker independent and can say it how it is.

To give just one example – For a long time, the feedback we have received on both Stan James and Boylesports has been very negative with many people reporting that betting accounts with these 2 firms are quickly closed or severely limited as soon as a punter shows a modicum of expertise.

Mindful of this, we seriously mark down any tipster that quotes a tip with either of these firms as such odds are little more than a work of fiction for many punters.

Yet, despite this, you will see both Stan James and Boylesports regularly quoted as offering a price on a tip or listed in odds comparison tables in the Racing Post and via other major media outlets. This is despite the widespread acceptance they won't stand a decent, shrewd bet.

Any punter worth his salt knows these 2 firms aren't worth bothering with, so why try fool them otherwise? Could it be for fear of losing advertiser income? I will let you decide.
5) THEY ARE RAKING IT IN!

It's also worth highlighting that many of the major UK high street bookies are making a small fortune from FOBT machines each week – certainly more than enough to cover occasional losses.

A report from the This is Money website earlier this year claimed that betting shop customers in the UK are losing £1.7 Billion a year on FOBT machines!

Ladbrokes alone have 8,966 machines spread across the country making an average of £996 profit per week each last year, up from £913 the year before. That's a staggering amount of money!

And all of this is from the firm that won't lay me more than £1.25 each-way on a 20/1 shot earlier this week at Lingfield… It's not as if they don't have the money.

ENJOYED THIS…WHY NOT CONSIDER A SECRET BETTING CLUB MEMBERSHIP?

I have probably set the cat amongst the pigeons with this article, but as the Secret Betting Club is independent from bookmakers and their ilk, I am free to discuss things others dare not.

Most bookies don't like us and that's fine as we are on the punters side, dedicated to helping you improve your betting profits.

We are not here to make friends with bookies – quite the opposite as we know which way our bread is buttered. It's for you the punter and our goal to help you make money betting.

That's all for this week, until next time, be lucky!
