Which of these 5 betting stages do you fall into?

After all, it's one thing helping someone make a profit betting for 6 or 12 months, but what about beyond that and generating an income that will provide for years to come? In today's column I want to reveal a short bit on each of the 5 steps to give you an idea on the pathway ahead of you to sustainable profits. You might also recognise yourself the stage you currently sit at as well. I'm probably going to reveal a little bit too much in points and the order for each of you might be slightly different, but here we go... Stage 1. Newbie or Time-Served 'Losing Gambler'- Total Betting Nirvana! This is the fun part and whether you are totally new to betting or simply somebody who has never bet profitably before, it's a wonderful place to be. In fact, it is probably preferable if you have bet for a while and only made losses, as it will catch the bookies off-guard when you start winning! At this stage, the world is really your oyster as to the tipsters you can follow. Protecting Accounts & Thinking Outside The Box Once you start making profits, the next stage should see you looking to protect your bookmaker accounts from grabbing too much unwanted attention. Pretending to be a mug punter will certainly help with this and adopting tactics such as playing in online casinos or using 'mug-friendly' betting apps too. At this point we also want to look into making your betting profits more sustainable and this is where a little bit of creating thinking comes into play. For example, can you follow some of your racing tipsters on the exchanges rather than by using bookmakers only? We investigated this for one particular racing tipster we reviewed, where instead of placing his bets each way with bookies, we placed them on Betfair and put forward a series of in-running lays. The upshot of this was an actual increase of overall profitability from 69 to 83 pts - and all of that on Betfair. All it takes is a bit of subtle analysis and strategic thinking. Stage 3. Football Focus Now as important it is to use racing tipsters, at some point the bookmakers offering odds on the sport will close the net and restrict your account. This will take longer if using the precautionary measures in the previous step, but at some point, you will want to consider focusing further on football tipsters. Football betting, whilst not enjoying  as strong an ROI as many racing tipsters is infinitely easier to get on - and what's more you can use a whole different set of bookies, such as Pinnacle Sports. You might struggle to get £100 on 'Sad Ken' in the 7.30 at Kempton but won't have much bother lumping £1000 on Grimsby Town on a wet Wednesday night in December. The key thing is that football offers a sustainable method of betting and there are several long-running profitable tipsters worth following to help you out. Consider Using 'Proxy' Accounts Just because some racing bookmakers will stop you from betting with them if you are too successful, it doesn't mean all is totally lost. What many people do in this situation is to simply open a new account in a friend or relative's name and bet through that instead. Ideally, this person will be male, which is not me being sexist but the simple fact that bookies treat female accounts with greater suspicion. If your 70-year old Auntie Linda opens a new account and immediately backs a string of winners at Lingfield, it will be noted! If opening 'Proxy Accounts' you do need to be aware of the legality and logistics of making this work (i.e. an arrangement with said person) plus how to cover your 'online tracks' so there is no link back to you. The use of a VPN account or even something as simple as only ever betting via a proxy account using your tablet, mobile phone or separate computer can cover this. Build Stakes & Look To The States We've now arrived at the final stage and chances are you will have a good diverse portfolio with a focus on sports such as football and some sustainable horse racing options. This is where bank management and staking comes to the fore and making sure you manage this as best you can to maximise your money. At this point I would also advocate looking to the States and betting on a number of US Sports to go alongside your football tipsters, where you can again achieve sustained profits.
