Kick Off: Frank Lampard scores a hat trick | Complete MLS Week 21 roundup

Here are the top soccer stories everyone's talking about this morning:

A New Weapon

The Seattle Sounders may not have been able to hold the lead in Sunday's 1-1 draw with the visiting LA Galaxy, but Armchair Analyst Matt Doyle argues they have finally found a creative spark for their attack in new recruit Nicolas Lodeiro, who sparkled in his MLS debut.

Productive First Day

New Orlando City boss Jason Kreis was over the moon after guiding the Lions to a 3-1 fightback triumph over New England in his first game on the job. Star forward Cyle Larin got things started with this fine finish.

Charlie, Bravo

Despite that loss, the Revs were lifted by the return of forward Charlie Davies, who shared details of his victory in a fight against cancer.

A Win-Win

It was a great weekend for FC Dallas fans, who celebrated both a 2-0 victory over visiting Vancouver and the news that star Fabian Castillo's transfer to Trabzonspor has fallen through.

Cup Winners

Jozy Altidore bagged his first goal of the season and reigning MVP Sebastian Giovinco was all over the score sheet in Toronto FC's 3-0 rout that grabbed the Trillium Cup back from rivals Columbus. But it was their young midfield that ruled the day.

Getting Well

Real Salt Lake snapped a six-game win drought with a 2-1 road win over the Philadelphia Union, powered by a pair of top-shelf goals.

Relief Work

Sporting Kansas City back-up netminder Alec Kann came up big in a pinch, backstopping the hosts to a 1-0 victory over MLS Cup holders Portland.

The Evening Standard

Bradley Wright-Phillips hit in the 90th minute on Sunday night to become the Red Bulls' all-time top scorer and earned the visitors a 2-2 rally draw at Chicago in the process.

Lamp-Lighting

Meanwhile, back in the Big Apple, Frank Lampard scored the first hat trick in club history to lead NYCFC to a 5-1 defeat of Colorado to end the Rapids' 15-match unbeaten streak.

Glad To Be Back!

Thanks to a late strike from happy returnee Hernan Bernardello, the Montreal Impact rallied for a 1-1 share at D.C. United.

Getting On The Board

Chris Wondolowski scored his first goal in nine tries against former employers Houston to earn San Jose a 1-1 road draw.

One Last Look

With another round of MLS action in the books, the Armchair Analyst has filed his weekly review.

Trade Winds

Vancouver have augmented their attack by landing forward Giles Barnes from Houston. That wasn't the only MLS trade this weekend after D.C. United swung a deal with Chicago to acquire attacker Kennedy Igboananike.

Trial Period

The San Jose Earthquakes are reportedly set to audition former Spurs and Wolves midfielder Jamie O'Hara.

Rumor Mill

An Argentine report claims that Sporting KC are kicking the tires on San Lorenzo attacker Sebastian Blanco. Elsewhere, veteran defender William Soares is leaving Ligat Ha-Al champs Hapoel Be'er Sheva and an Israeli paper says he has MLS offers. Also, a local scribe reports that Chicago are close to signing Armenian striker David Arshakyan.

Jobless In Seattle

Erstwhile Sounders coach Sigi Schmid offered up an emotional goodbye to Seattle. His firing has caused LA Galaxy boss Bruce Arena to lament that American soccer has lost a great, at least for now.

It's Not Easy Being Green

Young US international Julian Green bagged a 35-minute hat trick in Bayern Munich's 4-1 friendly win over Inter Milan on Saturday. Meanwhile, his club are doing their homework with aims on forming a fruitful partnership with an MLS club to be named.

The Will And The Way

Movie star Will Ferrell has explained how he came to be part of the ownership group of MLS expansion side LAFC.
