Kick Off: MLS All-Star Fan XI revealed | USA tie Panama | Do-or-die for Canada?

Here are the top 15 stories everyone's talking about today:

1. MLS ALL-STAR FAN XI

Prior to the USA’s Gold Cup game against Panama, MLS announced both the Fan XI and the Commissioner's picks for the upcoming AT&T MLS All-star Game. We also now know what the players will wear for the marquee match against Tottenham Hotspur.

2. USA REMAIN UNDEFEATED

Having already secured top spot in Group A, the USMNT's group finale against Panama didn’t hold much meaning for the Yanks, who fought back for a point in a 1-1 draw thanks to a second-half goal from Michael Bradley. The US captain was one of the few Americans who impressed while many fell flat. However, now that the group stage is over, the real focus begins.

3. HAITI TOP HONDURAS

Honduras’ Gold Cup campaign ended in disappointment on Monday, as a 1-0 defeat to an impressive Haiti left los Catrachos bottom of Group A with just one point. The win means the Haitians advance to the quarterfinals, finishing in second place in Group A. This is

4. CANADA NEED A WIN

Canada take on Costa Rica this evening in a crunch clash for their Gold Cup campaign (8:30pm ET, Fox Sports 1). Anything less than a win will likely spell the end of their tournament, but a lot will also be riding on what happens in the other Group B game, between Jamaica and El Salvador (6 pm ET, Fox Sports 1).

5. GERRARD'S COMPETITIVE DEBUT?

The first of the US Open Cup quarterfinals takes place Tuesday night as Real Salt Lake host the LA Galaxy (10 pm ET, YouTube). Steven Gerrard traveled for the game, in style, and may well see some playing time. Meanwhile, Alan Gordon hopes his goal on Saturday can start him on another scoring streak.

6. EXPLAINING A GOLD CUP ABSENCE

While Sporting Kansas City fans won’t be complaining that they got to keep two of their best players, why exactly did Jurgen Klinsmann leave Matt Besler and Benny Feilhaber out of his Gold Cup squad?  According to the US national team coach, it’s a matter of depth.

7. NO MORE CONCACAF GIANTS?

With Mexico held by Guatemala and the US failing to impress so far in the Gold Cup, could Mexico boss Miguel Herrera be right when he says the era of CONCACAF giants is over? Herrera also offered an update on Giovani Dos Santos’ future, suggesting that nothing has been confirmed one way or the other.

8. HAMID GETS HURT

D.C. United may be sitting clear atop the Eastern Conference, but the team from the capital suffered a blow on Monday with the news that goalkeeper Bill Hamid will miss four to six weeks, following surgery on his right knee and his left hand.

9. NOGUIERA PLEASED WITH PERFORMANCE

Having scored two goals on Saturday, Vincent Noguiera played a big part in the Philadelphia Union’s win over the Portland Timbers. The Frenchman agrees that it was one of his best performances to date, although not for the reason many think.

10. DWYER AND WASTON MAKE UP

Things got a little heated between Dominic Dwyer and Kendall Waston towards the end of Sporting Kansas City’s 1-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday. But both players seem content to leave the incident on the field, while also displaying a grudging respect for each other. Are the Whitecaps cut out to compete with the big-spending teams? Their owners certainly think so.

11. SOUNDERS READY TO RING THE CHANGES

In their five games without Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins up front, the Seattle Sounders have struggled offensively. Tyrone Mears, a fullback, has been the club's most productive player in that time. Head coach Sigi Schmid is considering making some changes, noting, “We need others to step up.”

12. WILL LAMPARD BE READY FOR SATURDAY?

A calf strain kept Frank Lampard from making his New York City FC debut on Sunday, but head coach Jason Kreis is optimistic his new Designated Player can make his first appearance this Saturday against the New England Revolution. Meanwhile, could NYCFC be looking to start their own women’s team?

13. SHOULD SCHWEINSTEIGER HAVE MOVED TO MLS?

As you may have seen, Bastian Schweinsteiger signed for Manchester United on Monday, but one former Bayern Munich legend feels the German international should have joined MLS instead.

14. THIRD TIME LUCKY FOR CARIBBEAN FOOTBALL UNION?

Jack Warner and Jeffery Webb were both elected to the position of CONCACAF president from within the Caribbean Football Union. Although both are now synonymous with FIFA corruption charges, can the Caribbean Football Union continue to lead the region?

15. THE SUB WHO SUED

No player is ever happy about being benched, even less so if they get sent out on loan to a lower division. But one player was so displeased about his treatment that he’s decided to try and sue his former club.
