Kick Off: David Villa gets New York City FC off to a good start l Toronto FC have a new captain

Here are the top 15 stories everyone's talking about this morning:

1. NYCFC START STRONG

New York City FC coasted through their first preseason game in England, with David Villa scoring both his and the team's first goal as they beat St Mirren 2-0. However, there does appear to be some bad news for the club, as Ryan Meara missed the game and is believed to out for up to six weeks with an injury.

2. NEW TIMBERS, NEW START

While he may not have featured in the Portland Timbers' 0-0 preseason draw with the San Jose Earthquakes, Norwegian-Ghanaian goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey is looking forward to the challenging year ahead with his new side. Dairon Asprilla did feature though, with the Colombian winger drawing plenty of praise for his performance.

3. USL AIMING HIGH WITH REBRAND

There was another big rebrand on Tuesday as USL PRO became USL. In addition to changing their name and logo, USL also announced that they will be seeking Division 2 status this year and that all their games in the upcoming season will be free to watch on YouTube.

4. DEPTH IN DEFENSE

The Seattle Sounders have added a new defender to their roster, signing 21-year-old Colombian defender Andreas Correa. Will this mean the end of Brad Evans' blossoming career as a central defender?

5. RAPID TURNAROUND

While the Colorado Rapids' last preseason had a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding who would be the head coach, Pablo Mastroeni believes that a more settled start to 2015 is just one of the things that will help them improve their performance. Another might just be a new striker.

6. A FARFAN RETURNS

D.C. United have picked up a face that will be familiar to those just north on the I-95, signing Michael Farfan via the allocation order. The midfielder spent the last year with Mexican side Cruz Azul but, before that, played three seasons with the Philadelphia Union.

7. CASTILLO IS THE FUTURE

FC Dallas made another positive move on Tuesday, signing forward Fabian Castillo to a new five-year deal. The Colombian scored 10 goals with four assists in 2014 and has been described by technical director Fernando Clavijo as "the future of this franchise."

8. MICHAEL BRADLEY: LEADER OF MEN

In addition to some high profile new arrivals, Toronto FC will also have a new captain this season, as the club has officially handed the armband from Steven Caldwell to Michael Bradley on Tuesday. It's another move which TFC's leaders hope will help put behind them a season in which there "weren't enough men on the team."

9. JONES ESTIMATED ABSENCE

Following a successful surgery to repair his sports hernia, the latest update on Jermaine Jones suggests that the New England Revolution Designated Player will be out for 4-6 weeks. Elsewhere, with his move to Hellas Verona derailed, ex-Revs defender A.J. Soares is training with Bob Bradley's Stabaek side.

10. RED BULLS CHECK ALL THE BOXES FOR KLJESTAN

Sacha Kljestan was officially unveiled to the press on Tuesday and spoke of his delight at joining the New York Red Bulls. Ambroise Oyongo was traded away as part of the deal that helped secure Kljestan and, while the Montreal Impact deal with the fallout, Red Bulls sporting Director Ali Curtis insists his side won't be affected.

11. BUILDING INTEREST

The San Antonio Scorpions are still hopeful of landing a future MLS expansion side and with two big games coming up against Texan rivals, could large crowds help their cause?

12. GREEN GETS DROPPED

More mixed news involving Americans abroad, as Brad Guzan's Aston Villa side slipped into the English Premier League drop zone while US youth international Christian Pusilic officially signed with Borussia Dortmund. Yet, while Pusilic celebrates, Julian Green, already on a season long loan from Bayern Munich, has been dropped from Hamburg's first-team to the club's U-23 side.

13. SOCCER RETURNING TO ARROWHEAD

While life is pretty good for Sporting Kansas City fans at Sporting Park, 2015 will also offer them the opportunity to see a soccer match at Arrowhead Stadium for the first time since 2010, something that has at least one Kansas City Chiefs player excited.

14. WHERE ARE YOU REGISTERED?

Now that Landon Donovan has retired, LA Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez is stepping up and taking more of a leadership role within the team. As for Donovan himself, life seems to be going pretty well right now.

15. 500 DAYS OF ZAKUANI

Did you know that Steve Zakuani has written a book? Entitled '500 Days', it chronicles the former Seattle Sounders star's return from the horrific injury he suffered in 2011. You can read an excerpt from it right here.
