There's not much blue on the Masters grid as the bookies are out to get your cash before tomorrow's start. Rory McIlroy was single figures last week but touched 14/1 earlier today; a far more realistic price for someone whose best finish is T15. We'd much rather take the 12/1 on defending champ Adam Scott, of the pair.
Phil is 14/1 for a fourth green jacket, ten years after he broke his major duck here at 33. Without a top-10 this season and hampered by niggling injuries, we'd prefer to wait for bigger in-running after one of the inevitable 8s on his scorecard. Tiger's absence will increase the focus on Phil and that may be one reason why he says he's nervious.
One man who won't mind Woods not being there is Sergio, who has finished in the top-20 of his last 13 tournaments, and actually leads the PGA tour in Putting From 10-15'! He's only a year older than Mickelson was when he won his first Major and has no problems turning it on at Augusta. Alternatively, you're only getting 22/1 on a proven choke artist.
The one to be on is Jason Day at 18/1. He hasn't played competitively since winning the Match Play due to a thumb injury, but we're willing to pile on anyway as the world number 4 has picked his spots through his career yet shown up in A1 shape. Two top-3 finishes in the past three years at Augusta is hard to ignore. |

| TIP OF THE DAY | |
|
| 'One man team' is one of the more overused phrases in the footballing dictionary but it is a term that can be applied perfectly to Newcastle this season. Much has been made of Yohan Cabaye's departure but it is in fact Loic Remy's absence that turns them into toothless relegation fodder. The Frenchman has been absent from 10 league games, in which time Newcastle have amassed a single injury time goal at home to Crystal Palace. Saturday's opponents, Stoke City, have built their season around impressive home results, suffering just two defeats in 16. With Remy fast approaching a return to the first team, this could be the last chance to get aboard the cash cow that is Newcastle to lose without scoring, at 11/4. | |
