Kick Off: Kaka scores his first goal for Orlando City | Tim Cahill reacts to New York Red Bulls departure

Here are the top 15 stories everyone's talking about this morning:

1. KAKÁ OFF THE MARK

Another busy day of preseason action saw a couple of MLS teams rack up huge scorelines, including a 4-0 win over FC Dallas (highlights above) for newcomers Orlando City, which also saw Kaká score his first goal for the Lions. Aside from the penalty kick, word from Florida is that Kaka worked well with midfield teammate Kevin Molino, and the Designated Player shared his thoughts on the outing.

In the Desert Friendlies in Tucson, Arizona, the Houston Dynamo beat the San Jose Earthquakes 3-2 (see the Houston goals), and the Vancouver Whitecaps beat the New England Revolution 2-0 (highlights). Later in the day, the Seattle Sounders beat college side UCLA 5-0 (recap).

2. CAHILL’S VIEWS

While Tim Cahill feels the New York Red Bulls are in good hands, the Australian international has explained his own reasons for departing the club. Cahill also offered his view of his former head coach Mike Petke, saying “he should and hopefully will get another job in MLS.”

3. VALDÉS ON HIS WAY OUT

The latest episode of the Carlos Valdés saga seems to be reaching a conclusion, as reports on Wednesday claim that Colombian international is once again leaving the club on loan, this time heading to Uruguayan side Nacional de Montevideo.

4. NEW TWEAKS FOR THE US OPEN CUP

The 102nd edition of the US Open Cup will see a record 91 teams taking part in the tournament, with the competition officially adopting a fixed bracket for the last 16 and geographical pairings for the earlier rounds. MLS teams will enter the tournament in Round 4, set to begin on June 16.

5. HERRERA HAPPY TO CONSIDER MLS PLAYERS

As some of Mexico’s established stars struggle to find playing time in Europe, Mexico national team manager Miguel Herrera has insisted that, while it is a choice only the players themselves can make, he has absolutely no problem with El Tri’s players choosing to join MLS squads.

6. KLINSMANN DOUBLES DOWN

With the second game of the US national team’s January camp coming up Sunday against Panama (4 pm ET; ESPN, UniMas, UDN), head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has seemingly doubled down on his recent comments regarding player fitness. However, FOX Sports analyst Alexi Lalas offered his own take on Klinsmann’s views.

7. PLANNING A TRIP

The US national team recently travelled to Chile for an international friendly, but planning the trip required a lot more effort that than you might have thought. Those same planners will definitely need to be on top of their game this year, as the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament has been moved forward to October, which means the US will compete in the Toulon Tournament and other friendlies to prepare.

8. SEGARES HANGS UP HIS BOOTS

There was sad news for Chicago Fire fans on Wednesday as long-serving defender and former club captain Gonzalo Segares announced his retirement. Segares will still be around, though, taking up a new position with the Fire Academy. As one career ends, a new one is just beginning, with first-round SuperDraft selection Matt Polster signing a contract with the club.

9. THE HIGUAIN BROTHERS

Columbus Crew SC have hired Sixten Boström, a former Finland international, as their new assistant coach to replace the recently departed Rob Maaskant. In other Crew SC news, could fans in Ohio one day see two Higuaíns playing for their team?

10. MAKING AN IMPACT

You can cross the Montreal Impact off the list of potential teams for Antonio Di Natale, as team owner Joey Saputo, who co-owns Italian side Bologna, set the record straight on both Di Natale and Gilardino. After failing to reach the MLS Cup Playoffs in 2014, Saputo insists his side will work hard to win fans back this time around.

11. KEANE TARGETS MORE TROPHIES

The LA Galaxy have won three MLS Cups in the last four years, and current league MVP Robbie Keane has been a huge part of that success. So what’s next for the Irish international? Well, according to the man himself, more of the same: “I want four [MLS cups] next year. And then after that, I want five.”

12. A FRESH START

Marco Delgado may have mixed emotions when he looks back on his time with Chivas USA, but after the 19-year-old landed at Toronto FC via the dispersal draft, the versatile midfielder is looking forward to a new start, no matter where he’s asked to play.

13. WHATS NEXT FOR THE US U-20S?

Despite a difficult start, US Under-20 national team head coach Tab Ramos has explained just how his side managed to get through the CONCACAF U-20 Championship and secure a place in this year's FIFA U-20 World Cup. The former US international also expanded on what happens between now and the start of the tournament in New Zealand.

14. HOUSTON HONDURANS SUFFER DEFEAT

Boniek Garcia and Luis Garrido both started for Honduras on Wednesday but, despite the Houston Dynamo players' best efforts, their side fell 3-2 to Venezuela. Elsewhere in CONCACAF, Costa Rican great Paulo Wanchope, who had a brief spell with the Chicago Fire in 2007, has been unveiled as Costa Rica’s new head coach.

15. DOWN ON DEMPSEY

What do Lupe Fiasco and Clint Dempsey’s brother have in common? It appears neither of them are huge fans of Deuce’s rapping.

Greetings Dearest Beloved,

Greetings Dearest Beloved,

I know that this letter may be a very big surprise to you, I came across your email contact from my personal search and I instructed the doctor here in this hospital to help me email you and i believe that you will be honest to fulfill my final wish before i will die.

I am Mrs. Yeety Bayarmaa, I am 66 years old, From Benin, and I am suffering from a long time cancer of the breast. From all indication my condition is really deteriorating, and my doctors have courageously advised me that I may not live beyond 3 month; this is because the cancer has reached a critical stage.

I was married to late Dr Bayramaa Altangerel, gold & diamond exportation) in Burkina Faso, West Africa, where we live all our Lives for Thirty-two years before he died in the year2004. But is quite unfortunately, He died after a Cardiac Arteries Operation that lasted only for four days.

Since his death I decided not to re-marry, I deposited all the sum of $5.8million dollars with a INSTUTITION here in Ouagadougou- Burkina Faso, where we spend our life together in Burkina Faso.

Presently, this money is still in their custody, and the management just wrote me as the Legitimate beneficiary to come forward to receive the money after keeping it for so long or rather issue a letter of authorization to somebody to receive it on my behalf since I cannot come over as a result of my illness, or they get it confiscated.

Presently, I'm with my laptop in a hospital where I have been undergoing treatment. I have since lost my ability to do anything myself and my doctors have told me that I have only 3 month to live.

Now that i am about to end the race like this, without any family members and no child. It is my last wish to see that this money is invested, but you will assure me that you will take 50% of the money and give 50% to the orphanages home in your country for my heart to rest.

I want your good humanitarian, to also use this money to fund churches, orphanages and widows around. I must let you know that this was a very hard decision, but I had to take a bold step towards this issue because I have no further option. I hope you will help see my last wishes come true.

As soon as I receive your reply I shall give you the contact of the INSTUTITION. I will also issue you a letter of authority which will prove that you are the new beneficiary of this funds, and the documents concerning the deposit. Please assure me that you will act accordingly as I stated here. i. Hope to hear from you soonest. I am waiting for your response. You can contact me here through my e-mail; yeety.bayarmaa@o2.pl

Kick Off: Kaka set for Orlando City debut | Houston Dynamo's Erick "El Cubo" Torres scores for Chivas

Here are the top 15 stories everyone's talking about today:

1. THE GAMES CONTINUE

As preseason action rolls on, there are four games for you today, including what looks set to be Kaká's first game in an Orlando City jersey. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, D.C. United drew 0-0 with Swedish side Jonkoping Sodra, while the LA Galaxy braved frigid temperatures to beat Georgetown University 2-1 as part of their visit to the nation's capital.

2. NEW DESIGNATED RAPID?

Having said they would take their time to find the right fit, the Colorado Rapids' DP search may already be over, as sources indicate the club have signed 21-year-old Argentine midfielder Juan Ramirez from Argentinos Juniors as just the second Designated Player in Rapids history. Meanwhile, if you speak Spanish, you can hear directly from Colorado's confirmed signing, Lucas Pittinari.

3. RSL'S NEW DEFENDER?

Are Real Salt Lake close to signing a new center back? Reports out of Guatemala suggest that 22-year-old national-teamer Elías Vásquez is set to complete a move to RSL and is already on his way to join his new team.

4. AVILA JUST WANTS TO PLAY

Having completed his move to Orlando City on a one-year-loan from Santos Laguna, MLS veteran Eric Avila is happy to be in a situation in which he's likely to play, especially as head coach Adrian Heath sees his new man as being versatile enough to man multiple positions for the Lions.

5. CREW CLEARED FOR CAMPBELL

While there was some uncertainty over the future of Columbus Crew SC draft pick Sergio Campbell, there was good news for the young defender after it was announced on Tuesday thata deal has been reached allowing the MLS side to sign their selection.

6. ARENA SETS THE WORLD TO RIGHTS

Does President Obama think the SuperDraft needs more rounds? Is Bruce Arena privy to the USA's nuclear strategy? Will Freddy Adu ever play for the Galaxy? All these questions and more were answered, sort of, when the LA Galaxy head coach chatted with the Washington Post.

7. MAKING NEW FRIENDS

Troy Perkins joined the Seattle Sounders this offseason after spending more than two years with the Montreal Impact. Prior to that, though, Perkins played for the Portland Timbers and, having become the latest player to have signed on both sides of the fierce rivalry, the goalkeeper discussed what that might mean in 2015.

8. VETERAN HAND

The New York Red Bulls have a new assistant coach after officially announcing the hiring of Denis Hamlett. The former Chicago Fire head coach has worked with Marsch before, in Montreal, and will be working on his fourth MLS coaching staff.

9. IS SOARES STAYING OR GOING?

While Juan Agudelo is happy to be returning to the New England Revolution after his European adventure fell flat, another New England player might not even get his started, as it seems that A.J. Soares' move to Italian side Hellas Verona is in danger of collapsing and, in a way, former MLSer Rafa Marquez's may be to blame.

10. NO INTEREST FROM NEW YORK

Antonio Di Natale to MLS? Perhaps the rumors may be true, but not when it comes to New York. Both the Red Bulls and New York City FC have been quick to deny any interest in the lethal Serie A goal scorer.

11. CUBO ON THE MARK

They might be struggling when it comes to the league table, but Chivas Guadalajara are in second place in Group 4 of the Copa MX after their latest win on Tuesday. Houston Dynamo DP Erick "Cubo" Torres had a hand in the victory with a header to seal the 2-0 result. Watch it here.

12. FOCUS ON LONG-TERM SOLUTION

With the Miami-Dade County Commission pushing for the use of FIU as a temporary home, a spokesman for David Beckham's MLS group has stated that, while all options will be considered, their focus remains on finding a suitable location for a permanent home.

13. SUPPORTING CHANGE

There will be three candidates standing against incumbent Sepp Blatter at the next elections for the FIFA presidency and the US Soccer Federation has reportedly thrown their weight behind Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan.

14. TIME TO LOOK ELSEWHERE?

Jurgen Klinsmann has lamented what he perceives as a lack of preseason fitness on his squad but, as Jermaine Jones becomes the first player to openly express discomfort with his role in the USA's new 3-5-2 formation, is it time for Klinsmann to consider that maybe fitness isn't the problem?

15. R.I.P. FRANK BORGHI

The US soccer community was saddened to learn on Tuesday about the passing of Frank Borghi, the goalkeeper from the famous 1950 US World Cup team that stunned England with a 1-0 victory, and one who also served in World War II. Aged 89, Borghi's passing leaves Walter Bahr as the only surviving member of that historic team, and Bahr spoke fondly about his former teammate.

Kick Off: Tim Cahill departs the Red Bulls to sign in China, Giovinco clears the way to join TFC immediately

Here are the top 15 stories everyone's talking about today:

1. CAHILL DEPARTS

Tim Cahill and the New York Red Bulls officially agreed to mutually part ways on Monday, and it wasn't long before the Asian Cup winner found a new club, signing with Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua.

2. GIOVINCO'S ON HIS WAY

Sebastian Giovinco will be with Toronto FC in time for the start of the MLS season after securing his immediate release from Juventus. The Italian international wasn't expected to join the side until July, but according to GM Tim Bezbatchenko, Giovinco and his agent worked hard to ensure his prompt arrival in Toronto. Here's the lowdown on how the Reds got their man.

3. THE LIONS ROAR

Orlando City revealed on Monday that their season ticket sales have surpassed 11,000, and the news didn't stop there. The Lions are working to finalize a deal with Brazilian defender Paul Andre, and they also announced the signing of former Chivas USA midfielder Eric Avila.

4. NYCFC GET THEIR MAN

German side Union Berlin accidentally revealed this transfer last week, so it didn't surprise anyone on Monday when New York City FC confirmed the capture of Slovakian international forward Adam Nemec, with head coach Jason Kreis confident his new signing "adds further goalscoring threat to our team."

5. MORE EARTHQUAKES TO COME?

At the official press unveiling of the San Jose Earthquakes newest Designated Player, Swiss international Innocent Emeghara described MLS as "the future," while general manager John Doyle indicated the club is still in the market for more signings.

6. KNIGHT-FALL

After a tumultuous time acquiring a work permit, Zat Knight only signed with the Colorado Rapids on Oct. 1 last year. It was a bit surprising then when word came out Monday that the Rapids had agreed to part ways with the 6-foot-6 English defender.

7. NEW FACES, NEW CHALLENGES IN 'CAPS PRESEASON

As the Vancouver Whitecaps continue their preparations for the new season, there are some familiar faces joining the team's preseason training camp in Charleston as trialists. The time in South Carolina also gives the Whitecaps' young Canadian internationals a chance to put their recent CONCACAF U20 Championship failure behind them.

8. TEMPORARY SOLUTION?

While David Beckham's Miami group continues to search for a suitable location for a soccer-specific stadium in Miami, could a temporary solution be at hand? The Miami-Dade County Commission certainly think so, as they're pushing for the use of FIU Campus facilities.

9. MORE SPACE FOR SOUNDERS

2014 may have been the first year the Seattle Sounders failed to break their own attendance record, but the club still averaged an incredible 43,734 fans. As such, the Supporters' Shield winners are expanding the capacity at CenturyLink Field to roughly 40,000 seats per game in 2015.

10. CHAVEZ & PAREJA REUNITING?

There were three Hondurans from MLS, including two from the Houston Dynamo, called up to Honduras' squad for Wednesdays game against Venezuela. A fourth player, Marvin Chavez, is still looking for a new club and is currently training with FC Dallas.

11. AMERICANS ABROAD

It was another mixed day for Americans abroad, for while Alejandro Bedoya signed a new three-year extension with French side Nantes and Bobby Wood escaped his nightmare situation at 1860 Munich, Joe Gyau appears to be out of action for the rest of the season after a second surgery on his knee.

12. VELA INJURED

El Tri have an injury problem of their own to deal with as striker Carlos Vela has been ruled out for two months following an injury to his right knee. It means the forward will likely miss games against Ecuador and Paraguay in the buildup to a busy summer for Mexico.

13. U-18S FIND A BALANCE

Following a win and a loss in their opening two games, the US U-18s moved their record to 1-1-1 in the Copa Chivas on Monday after a 1-1 draw against Club Tijuana. The Javier Perez-coached side close out the tournament today against Deportivo Universidad Catolica.

14. USL DATES

The USL PRO schedule is out for those of you who want to follow the developmental pyramid closely in 2015. There's also news on where the New York Red Bulls new team will play some of their games this year.

15. THE WEST WING

The LA Galaxy once again traveled to D.C to be honored by the President as MLS Champions,Omar Gonzalez made light of a somewhat unwelcome similarity and President Obama singled out Robbie Rogers for praise during his speech.

1. HELLO AGAIN, MR. PRESIDENT

The LA Galaxy will meet President Barack Obama for the third time in four years today, as they will be honored in the nation's capital at 2 pm ET (WATCH: White House live stream). Defender A.J. DeLaGarza will be running the MLS Instagram account during the visit, but he will also have some other personal thoughts on his mind.

2. GIOVINCO ARRIVING EARLY?

Toronto FC might be getting a lot stronger a lot sooner, as Italian giants Juventus confirmed on Monday recent reports that Designated Player Sebastian Giovinco is set to join Toronto immediately and not at the end of the Itelian season.

3. QUAKES ADD DP

Not only will the San Jose Earthquakes start 2015 with a new head coach in a new stadium, but the California club will also have three Designated Players for the first time in their history after completing the signing of Swish international striker Innocent Emeghara. A native of Nigeria, Emeghara will be introduced at a Monday press conference at 3 pm ET. The Quakes, meanwhile, put away the Sonoma County Sol 5-0 in preseason action on Saturday.

4. CREW'S NEW ADDITION

Columbus Crew SC have added a new midfielder to their ranks following the signing of 22-year-old Democratic Republic of Congo international Cedrick Mabwati. However, Cedrick will see out the Spanish season with Osasuna before joining Crew SC in the summer.

5. EXTENDED STAY IN AFRICA

Crew SC supporters got a chance to see their new star in action, as the DR Congo midfielder helped his country advance to the semifinals of the African Cup of Nations following a 4-2 victory over the Republic of Congo. The Chicago Fire, meanwhile, will have to wait a little longer for Designated Player David Accam to join the team's preseason camp, as Ghana also advanced after beating Guinea 3-0.

6. MORE EUROPEAN ARRIVALS?

Today marks the end of the European transfer window, and it seems another Wigan player could be following Shaun Maloney to MLS, albeit this time with the Philadelphia Union. There's also news of another potential departure from England as a former Canadian international is supposedly set for a role with the Chicago Fire.

7. PRESEASON PERFORMANCES

With preseason well and truly underway, so too are the games for many MLS teams, which included a first win for New York City FC, a draw between Orlando City and D.C. United, and wins for both the New England Revolution and the Portland Timbers.

8. TIMBERS EYEING STADIUM EXPANSION?

With a 2-0 win over Sporting Kansas City, the Portland Timbers' preseason is off to a good start and, as they look to translate that success into the regular season, the club is examining options to increase its home stadium capacity. Elsewhere, former Timbers forward Ryan Johnson is making a name for himself in South Korea.

9. OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN

Prior to the team's first preseason game, New York City FC confirmed that striker David Villa will be the club's captain, with the Spanish Designated Player setting his sights on making surehis time with MLS' newest team is a success both on and off the field.

10. SACRAMENTO'S SURGE

Following last week's major announcements regarding the Sacramento Republic's growing list of investors, what does that mean for their chances of securing an MLS franchise? Well, according to Mayor Kevin Johnson, the unified front makes for a "Super Bowl-level ownership team."

11. MIAMI NEWS IS ON THE WAY

It's been almost one year since the initial MLS Miami announcement and, while things have been very quiet on that front recently, David Beckham insists a positive announcement on the project will be made soon.

12. COYLE SHARES HIS THOUGHTS

As new Houston Dynamo boss Owen Coyle prepares for his first season coaching in MLS, the Scotsman talked about the benefits of a strong preseason and building a bridge from the academy to the first team.

13. RAPID DECISIONS

While the Colorado Rapids have announced the signing of Argentine midfielder Lucas Pittinari, draft signing Joseph Greenspan has selected his US Navy assignment, opting for a base in San Diego, partly because "it's also a hotbed for soccer."

14. THIRD-TIER HOME OPENERS

2015 marks a big year for the USL PRO, with a new format and an unprecedented 24 teams. With eight MLS teams fielding their own development sides in the competition, the league announced on Saturday the home openers for each club, including, of course, a Cascadia rivalry clash. The full USL PRO schedule is set to be announced today. The Vancouver Whitecaps, meanwhile, announced a new head coach for their USL PRO side, Vancouver Whitecaps 2.

15. CAHILL STARTS THE YEAR WITH A TROPHY

New York Red Bulls Designated Player Tim Cahill started 2015 off in the best way possible, helping Australia to their first Asian Cup title with a 2-1 extra-time victory over South Korea. Justin Meram, meanwhile, saw his own Asian Cup adventure end in disappointment after Iraq lost their third-place match against the United Arab Emirates.
